Cecile Bank

Cecile Bank’s oeuvre includes graphic art, drawings and mixed media paintings on canvas and paper.

Cecile looks at the world as an organic whole and is endlessly fascinated by the space between heaven and earth. Earth, water, air, trees and birds are forms that inspire, as well as urban shapes and structures. Her feeling of wonder requires a thoughtful approach, because everything is in a state of flux it cannot be described explicitly.

With fragments of photographs, etchings and drawings she explores the possibilities that lie beneath the surface. She suggests a spatial composition by using acrylic paint, chalk, ink and graphite. Her graphic eye controls the pictorial process. Out of loosely placed lines and painterly gestures a vibrating surface of a lyrical nature is created. As in poetry she uses aesthetic and rhythmic details to enhance her composition.

Her graphic work includes etchings, woodcuts and monoprints, mostly in limited edition.

Regardless of the technique used, she skilfully manipulates the materials so that the objects melt into their surroundings. In subtle blues and greys, sometimes with earthy colours or a little red, an intimate order is revealed. In multiple layers and tints the sensitive surface of the work goes beyond the mysterious.

 Every artwork is an adventurous journey, by freely associating thoughts and materials Cecile Bank develops a visual language bordering on abstraction. Hereby she shows the transience of nature and at the same time its strength and vulnerability. In every artwork she brings the world to a floating standstill in the resulting stream of events.
